"Teoforomachie", czyli wojny procesji na Krakowskim Przedmieściu w Warszawie (krótkie wprowadzenie)

Igor Piotrowski

“Teoforomachie”, Which Means Wars of Processions in Krakowskie Przedmieście in Warsaw (Short Introduction)

The article discusses changes in customs concerning Corpus Christi celebrations in the most important Warsaw street of the 18th and 19th century in the context of alleged rivalry between two biggest churches in the city: St. John’s Collegiate Church (a cathedral since 1798) and the Holy Cross Church. The author introduces the term “teoforomachia” to describe any arguments and disputes about processions. The subtitle “short introduction” suggests that the topic has been only sketchily outlined; the study contains numerous questions; the author makes an attempt to define the time frame of the phenomenon, however he suggests further research.
