Gustaw Herling-Grudziński’s Paris

The article is an attempt to present the image of Paris in Gustaw Herling-Grudziński’s writing. The essay Miasto zmęczenia. Z notatnika outsidera (Tired City. From Outsider’s Diary) becomes the starting point to illustrate heterogeneous image of the French capital. The image of the city shrouded in its own legend is confronted with the image of Paris just after the end of World War II, in November 1946. This just post-war essay presents the fall of the myth of Paris, which was becoming a symbol of the decline of European culture.
