“Non-Conforming Conformity”. Opera and the Nineteenth Century

The paper focuses on several aspects of the opera’s functioning in the 19 -century th culture. The aim of the outlined comments is to present opera as an extremely significant artistic phenomenon, although rarely present in the research on the 19 century, where the th basic aesthetic, outlook-related, social, etc. assumptions and phenomena of that period were concentrated. Genological aspects of opera art, tension between its elite and egalitarian dimensions, aesthetics of wonder, status of an opera work as a form defined by re-narrative actions towards the myths of culture and literary texts, as well as aesthetics of the opera libretto became the centre of attention.
