Stefan Fiszel-Powidzki, klient Jana Łaskiego

Piotr Tafiłowski

Stefan Fiszel-Powidzki, the Client of Jan Łaski

The text is devoted to Stefan Fiszel (later called Powidzki), a banker of the Jewish ancestry. The author establishes the known facts from the life of this individual. His aim is, however, not only to create a biographical entry but also present the client-related mechanisms on this example. Stefan Fiszel conducted his financial activity to the largest extent at time when his patron, Jan Łaski, the Chancellor of the Crown, remained at the helm of authority. Once he left the royal chancellor’s office, Fiszel was also removed from the court, and from that time on the latter bought out and leased properties (hence the “surname” Powidzki).
